How do we preserve the Pipe Factory’s heritage while improving its thermal performance? The window replacement for @thepipefactoryglasgow refurbishment was carefully considered to balance heritage preservation and energy efficiency improvement. We aimed to retain and reuse as much of the original materials as possible, like concrete upstands and lead flashing. We also used natural, breathable materials for insulation, choosing a thermal render that follows the contours of existing architectural features like steps, corbels, and bullnoses, allowing them to remain visible and preserving the building’s unique character and charm.
