Having lain derelict for almost 40 years, we were approached by New City Vision in December 2019, to establish a new vision for the Govan Graving Docks to bring culture and heritage to the fore. Working with the city council, local community, and conservation and heritage organisations, we have facilitated two years of extensive conversations, presentations and workshops to cultivate a collective momentum for the project which will open up the site to the city, metaphorically and physically.
The Govan community now looks forward to the prospect of living alongside a public Maritime Heritage Park, with Dry Dock 1, restored and used for historic ship repair, an urban wetlands zone around the basins, and visitor facilities embedded in the remaining Grade A listed Pump House. The new vision for the site also sees 304 new homes arranged along the southern perimeter, leaving the bulk of the nine hectares free for public recreation and heritage purposes.
