The Crichton Project: Context Post 3/6 An understanding of site, context and history has been fundamental to our team’s design process in this second stage of the competition. Our approach and core project values have been heavily informed by the rich heritage of The Crichton. An important part of this process was spending time on the site as a team, across multiple visits. We have found that with each visit, our understanding of the places and spaces which give the site its special character has been enhanced. The Crichton is a place where nature and landscape have historically been harnessed to support well-being. Repurposing and enhancing the Merrick Building provides the opportunity to continue and strengthen this legacy, ‘a nod to the unity of old and new beauty’*, and our proposal sets out to do this with a building that is in and of its landscape. *Extracts taken from ‘In and Of The Landscape’, a poem by Lionheart @lionheartfelt for The Crichton Project Film credits: Jim Stephenson (@clickclickjim) Euan Wilding (@wildingfilm) Edward Bishop (@edwardmbishop) #UKCOMMUNITYRENEWALFUND #crichtonproject #crichton #crichtontrust #odonnellbrown #odonnellbrownarchitects #whitearkitekter #ekkist #rias #competition #architecture #community #education #sustainbility #rammedearth #regeneration #wellbeing
