3/3 The Pipe Factory Collaborating with conservation architects @loadermonteith we have sought to understand the historic value of the building and collectively develop sensitive proposals that retain its uniqueness and charm, whilst improving its energy efficiency with input from @harleyhaddow . The interiors are characterized by various idiosyncratic details that vary throughout, these range from brick corbels and bull noses to unique cast iron column capitals. Central to our thinking on the project is how we ensure these details and idiosyncrasies are not lost through over development in search of energy efficiency. To find this balance, we are proposing an insulation system that follows the profile of the brick corbels and steps and keeping the new ceiling system above the lines of the existing principle beams.
