West Hendon Park Post 3/3 We recently produced designs for a major redevelopment of West Hendon Playing fields in North London collaborating with @rankinfraserlandscapearch. Our contribution focusses on a regeneration of an existing park building, currently housing a bowling club and nursery – this was developed to sit within the new and extensive proposed landscaping masterplan. The canopy which wraps the existing and new elements to the South will not only unify the various parts of the building but also provide valuable shelter for the community using the park. The entrance has been placed to visually connect with the Goldsmith Avenue Park entry point, using trees as way finding devices to lead the path obviously to the front door. A strong columned frontage invites users into the building, responding to existing level changes. We intend this project to be a template for future community park buildings, focusing on how we can minimise the impact on the environment through retention of existing buildings in combination with the use of architecture as a powerful tool to enhance people’s lives through design. Materials will be carefully chosen to minimise climate impact, in this case using timber. @rankinfraserlandscapearch @barnetcouncil #odonnellbrownarchitects #odonnellbrown #rankinfraserlandscapearchitecture #londonarchitecture #london #community #communitycentre #park #landscapearchitecture #architecture #westhendonpark #glasgowarchitects #timber #sustainability #climate #retrofit #masterplan
