The Foundry - Part 2/5 The site has an industrial past, being home to the Etna Foundry. Historical maps have shown the foundry was in operation in 1897 as well as several photographs which show some of the original foundry buildings still standing in the late 60s. The architecture of these industrial buildings was robust, solid and used brickwork rather than the facing stone of the nearby conservation area. The adjacent site was home to a gas works and the remnants of the cylinders have only recently been cleared to make way for a 140 unit residential project currently in construction.
