Sprigg Sauchiehall Street Post 1/3 We are delighted that our Sprigg project in Glasgow won the Small Works and the Wood for Good Awards at the @glasgowinstituteofarchitects Design Awards last Friday. Congratulations to our Client @wearesprigg, McNee Building Services and also @designengworkshop. Sprigg, an ambitious Glasgow based food takeaway business, approached O’DonnellBrown to design their new restaurant/shop on the ground floor of @mclellanworks on Sauchiehall Street. The commercial unit, formally a hearing healthcare shop with cellular accommodation, was to be reimagined to become a second Glasgow shop for the client. The brief placed significant emphasis on the need to utilise design to further the very particular client ethos: ‘simplicity and quality’. The completed project expresses these principal goals through a simple and considered design that references the work and approach of Mackintosh and makes use of carefully crafted material. The project also asked for carefully considered spatial planning for the shop floor to work for a variety of scenarios including customers buying custom bowls, ready made bowls, coffee as well as staff movements and a constant stream of delivery drivers. Through analysis and diagramming predicting user movement, we composed the optimal position for the layout of the shop combined with a considered amount of seating.
