New Homes at the Govan Graving Docks – Materiality and Details The elevation strategy for residential proposals at the Govan Graving Docks picks up on key features of the surrounding tenemental context including undulating façades, corner features, columned & gridded façades and horizontal banding & entablatures. It also drawn on the key features within the immediate site context, to ensure continuity and to strengthen the new building’s relationship within Govan and the wider city. The articulation on the residential blocks draws influence from: • The robust linearity of the docks through implementation of a continuous plinth at the base of each block as a way of tying all elements of the proposal together, and stacked soldier course banding. • The repeated arched motif present on the dockside. This is embodied by the docks themselves and by the detailing on the existing pump house- by implementing this around the base of the Dock 2 building this articulation acts to ground the proposal within its context and create a unique and robust frontage onto the new public square. • The push and pull, undulating façades present in the immediate context- this has been translated into the proposal through the inclusion of alternating pop out balconies, and stepped façades. @rankinfraserlandscapearch @iceniprojects @atelier_ten #govangravingdocks #govan #glasgow #architects #odonnellbrown #odonnellbrownarchitects #regeneration #conservation #architecture #placemaking #docks #fairfurst #zmarchitecture #iceni #rankinfraser #glasgowarchitects
