(re)grown: Sowing a Bio-based Material Culture As part of this year’s @archifringe programme, studio Director @jenniferodonnellbrown participated in a panel discussion, focussed on how we can build a ‘homegrown’ future for materials in retrofit and new build construction. It is clear that we need to get comfortable specifying materials that can remodel, regenerate, grow and adapt in response to their environment, and we were happy to share our initial research for The Crichton Project, working with @whitearkitekter and @_ekkist, which is focussed on how we can bring the benefits of earth-based construction, and glue-less CLT, using locally sourced timber, to Dumfries. It was fantastic to hear from fellow panellists, from very different backgrounds across the construction industry, which made for honest and interesting discussion. Lots of obstacles to overcome, but we left the discussion feeling hopeful. Thanks to @be_stbuild and Sam Patterson for chairing, congratulations to New Future Construction for organising with @material_cultures, and look forward to continuing the conversation over the coming months.
