Wood for Wellbeing Post 1/3 Our project Sprigg on Sauchiehall Street received the Wood for Good Award @_woodforgood at the @glasgowinstituteofarchitects Awards ceremony earlier in November. We are taking this as an opportunity to reflect on all our projects that celebrate wood. Research has shown that people tend to respond more positively to natural materials. Studies looking at the use of timber in buildings have found that it can make people feel more relaxed, and even reduce heart rate and blood pressure, as it activates our parasympathetic nervous system. In our projects Overland Children’s Centre and Swanlea Sixth Form, the use of timber internally, through birch faced plywood window surrounds and exposed roof joists, provides a warm and neutral background for the education and play spaces. Plywood lining and shelving in James Watt Place adds both warmth to the office and a utilitarian aesthetic to the warehouse fronting façade.
