Overnewton Place

Overnewton Place, Glasgow

A development of four mews houses in Glasgow’s West End.

Development on an otherwise derelict site building on the popular west end typology of mews houses and lane development.

The proposals positively contribute to the nearby development of the Yorkhill and Kelvingrove Cycling Village project by creating homes for cyclists, incorporating bike storage within each property, bike wash down area, and communal repair station within the shared residents garden.

Access to each property is through a private entrance courtyard creating the transition between public and private in a space that can become individual to each dwelling. The principle living level has been located on the upper floor to elevate the living and kitchen spaces and to benefit from the south facing aspect.

Elevations have been composed using a single material of brick with differentiation in the brick bonding to set datums and highlight areas of detailing. The brick aesthetic makes reference to historical and cultural precedents within the area, in particular the now demolished Overnewton Works.
