Drumbrae, University of Edinburgh The building adopts a light-touch, low-carbon architectural approach, inspired by the simple working structures found across the Stirlingshire landscape. Designed as a contemporary interpretation of a rural shelter or shieling, the building is formed from a simple timber structural grid and raised on screw-pile foundations. This allows the structure to sit lightly above the ground, minimising disturbance to the landscape and avoiding the need for concrete. A sheltered external deck provides space for larger group gatherings, while a small insulated interior contains an accessible WC, kitchenette and learning space. Together these spaces offer both protection from the elements and a strong visual connection to the surrounding landscape. @edinburghuniversity @uoe_sustainability @lucinsider @harleyhaddow Armour Construction Consultancy #architecture #offgrid #timberconstruction #sustainability #universityofedinburgh
